Forty years as a lawyer advising on and litigating employment and business disputes convinced me that resort to courts to resolve disputes frequently falls short of giving disputants the best result or meeting their needs — notwithstanding that litigation consumes considerable time, money, and resources. As a party-advocate, I participated in hundreds of mediations, most resulting in the parties achieving results that better suited them. This led me to take numerous courses in various forms of alternative dispute resolution and engage in that work. From 1997, I mediated appellate cases as a settlement judge for the Nevada Supreme Court and since then when retained by private parties. I became an arbitrator in 2004, arbitrating cases assigned through the American Arbitration Association and in 2023 joined the public arbitrator panel of FINRA, the Financial Regulatory Authority. In 2023, I received an LL.M (Master of Laws) after extensive study in mediation, negotiation, and arbitration at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine/Caruso School of Law, Pepperdine University. I now focus my practice exclusively on dispute resolution.
