Courtney Chicvak, Esq., M.S., J.D., ICF ACC, IMI Certified Mediator, is a peacebuilder, educator, and advocate for access to justice and community peace, guided by empathy and a commitment to helping communities thrive. As Program Director of Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Long Island Dispute Resolution Centers (LIDRC), a program of the EAC Network and the state-designated Community Dispute Resolution Centers for Suffolk and Nassau Counties, she helps lead the design and implementation of both court-annexed and community-based mediation programs in partnership with the New York State Unified Court System. Courtney also oversees LIDRC’s Basic and Advanced Mediation Trainings, guiding emerging practitioners and helping shape scalable frameworks for peaceful resolution across Long Island’s courts and communities. A mediator grounded in service, Courtney is certified by the International Mediation Institute (IMI) as a mediator, serves as a New York State Part 146 Basic Mediation Trainer, and holds coaching credentials from the International Coaching Federation (ICF). She is also recognized as a Senior Family Mediator by the Academy of Professional Family Mediators (APFM). At Long Island Dispute Resolution Centers, she coaches and mentors new custody and visitation mediators during training. Over the years, Courtney has supported hundreds of individuals and families through mediation in the New York State Unified Court System, with a particular focus on co-parenting and family matters, informed by her experience in the New York City Family Court and at the New York Peace Institute. Through her teaching and coaching, Courtney cultivates the next generation of legal and mediation professionals, emphasizing ethical leadership, emotional intelligence, and meaningful impact. She teaches conflict resolution at Columbia University, including curriculum development at the Morton Deutsch International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution and the Conflict Intelligence Lab. Her instruction and coaching also encompass negotiation, mediation, argumentation, advocacy, and intercultural communication at institutions such as the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (UC Law San Francisco), Yale School of Management, Stanford Law School, Hitotsubashi University, Abilene Christian University, Grand Canyon University, and the Women in Negotiation (WIN) Summit. Courtney holds a B.S. from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, an M.S. from Columbia University’s Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Program, a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law and an Executive Diploma Programme in Cultural Diplomacy, International Relations, and Global Governance, offered by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in collaboration with the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD). She is admitted to practice law in New York.
