Certified Civil Mediator, Attorney & CPA

Certified Civil Mediator · Attorney, CPA

As a certified civil mediator, Janet Madden Charles brings 40 years of business, legal and community leadership to her practice. As CEO of a commercial construction firm, Janet served two terms as chairwoman of the industry’s globally-recognized trade organization. Graduating in accounting from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, she started her career as a CPA and practiced with the public accounting firm PWC. While practicing with the law firm Faegre Drinker as a tax attorney, she represented many complex and sophisticated clients. Because tax laws can uniquely affect different industries, Janet’s practice included “test cases” for specific industries. She co-authored the ABA Deskbook on Indiana Property Taxation. Janet graduated magna cum laude from IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Among her many community and civic responsibilities, Janet served as chairwoman of the Board of Ethics for the City of Indianapolis. The Board of Ethics is responsible for reviewing and advising on conflicts of interest within the City government. Building consensus around difficult issues was her leadership style. She also served as a Board member of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Chairwoman of the YWCA.
