Lorna Jaynes
Senior Mediator
Senior Mediator · JD
I focus on alternative dispute resolution strategies, including mediation and collaborative practice, as an alternative to clients fighting in court. Both processes empower clients, rather than attorneys or judges, to make decisions that are in the best interest of themselves and their families. Divorce is a problem to be solved, not a battle to be won, and by working together to solve the problem, time, financial and emotional costs are reduced. With either process, clients maintain their personal and economic dignity, reduce conflict, improve communication and cooperation, and negotiate durable agreements that consider the needs and interests of all family members.

Approach
How we collaborate
As mediator I facilitate a discussion to help the parties identify what is most important to them. I help parties decide the issues they want to resolve, communicate effectively, articulate what is important to each, gather all necessary information, create options for settlement. Parties can explore options for settlement and create an agreement that works for both. Parties are expected to negotiate in good faith, treat each other with respect, exchange all important information, put the children first, and look for solutions acceptable to all. The mediation process can help couples improve their capacity to communicate and coparent effectively after divorce.
