About & Mediation Philosophy

Neutral Profile

Shawn Storey was born in Texas and grew up in the western part of the state near his family’s ranch. After graduating with a double major in psychology and political science he worked for the mental health department in several counties in Texas. Additionally, he was a probation officer and licensed addiction counselor before going to law school in 1995. He then started his legal practice in 1998. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Shawn Mr. has been involved in mediations for over 20 years and is a former case manager for the American Arbitration Association (AAA). He has completed training for mediation with the New York State Unified Court System, including specialized training in family issues, and continues to train with the New York Center for Interpersonal Development. Domestic Matters If you are contemplating a divorce or have filed one already, you may want to consider mediation to reach a temporary or final settlement. Most people find that they are more satisfied with the outcome of their case when they reach an agreement rather than having a judge or arbitrator decide for them. Additionally, an agreement can be more creative than the typical order given by a judge. It can therefore be better suited to your family’s unique situations. Possibly the the biggest advantage is avoiding the stress and cost of contested hearings in court. Civil Matters Like in divorce cases, a mediation agreement can be the most beneficial way to settle your civil lawsuit or other dispute. It may help you avoid court altogether. If your conflict involves a neighbor, family member or member of your business or other community, chances are you will want to reach an amicable solution. Using a mediator to settle your case can even broaden your understanding of the other party and the subject matter involved.
